Looking ahead, here is what we have in store for the No-Trash-Newbold blog:

My vision for this blog has been to use it as a means to get the word out to those within the Newbold borders and beyond. “The word”  is that the trash problem in our community must be fixed!

To accomplish our goal of cleaning up Newbold we must get local businesses involved. We will be working with the City of Philadelphia and the “Unlitter Us” program to partner with local businesses, especially on Snyder and Passyunk Avenues.

Another source of refuse is rental properties above retail locations. Landords must get the message across to their tenants about proper trash disposal.

As we incent local businesses to join the litter fight,  we will then recognize  those businesses for their positive efforts here at No-Trash Newbold.

All ideas and suggestions are welcome- so please respond in kind!

The monthly neighborhood street cleanups within Newbold are the Second Saturday of each month from March to November. More volunteers are needed. The first Newbold cleanup of the 2012 season is Saturday March 24th. We begin the cleanup of our residence blocks and then meet at Guerin Rec Center at 930am.

Guerin Rec is located at the corner of 16th and Jackson sts. We will have brooms, gloves and bags at Guerin but feel free to bring your own cleanup tools as well.

Cleanup dates will be altered to coincide with the Philadelphia city-wide cleanups. The first city-wide cleanup for 2012 is April 14th.

Want to get involved? Come and join in the cleanup effort. And- spread the word to your neighbors!!

Take the Trash Out!

Part of the mission of the  Newbold Civic Association in South Philadelphia is to keep our streets clean. We have a long way to go!  Philly as a whole has a reputation as a dirty city. If we are going to clean it up it starts within each community as a grassroots effort.

The bigger picture is that every individual has a responsibility to keep the area around their homes and businesses clean. And it is with this same mindset that all of us must properly discard our refuse- wherever we travel about Philly.  Is it that difficult? No- it begins and ends with an awareness. It’s about responsibility and of respect for our fellow neighbors.

The cleanups will go on, March to November, as our message of responsibility and respect continues to permeate our hood.

Come out to the monthly cleanups and lend a hand. Want more information or have a question? Email Rick: rickg7586@gmail.com
